General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion (ÇEM) has been established in Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs in 2011 with the aim of “protection of soil , improvement of natural resources, combating with desertification and erosion, setting politics and strategies related with activities of avalanche and flood control, providing cooperation and coordination among related agents and agencies”.
As a result of abolishing of General Directorate of Afforestation and Erosion Control which is a main service unit in Ministry of Environment and Forestry by 645 numbered Decree Law, General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion has been situated within the service units of Central Organization in accordance to 04 July 2011 dated and 27984 numbered Decree Law which is about Organization and Duties of Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and it has been entered into force by publishing in Duplicate National Gazette.
- With the aim of protection of soil and improvement of natural resources,to make and have it make plans of combating desertification and erosion ,avalanche and flood control and integrated catchment rehabilitation plans based on catchment integrity, to monitor their implementation, to support them in catchment basis, to determine politics and strategies in relation to these works and activities, to provide coordination and cooperation among related agent and agencies.
- To make plans in national and regional level in order to improve water catchments and determine politics and strategies.
- To carry out research and development activities with universities and research &development agencies, to make training, publication and advertisement activities.
- To make and to have it make survey, research, job description, analysis and determination of unit price in the issues that are its assignment
